02/12/2009Competition Winners

Back in September, Watercooled ran a competition with 247 Magazine, inviting readers to send us a picture of them at their favourite South West UK break with a short piece about why it's the best break around (see news story 04/08/2009).

We had some great enteries but we had to choose just three winners.  First place went to Martin Jackson who nominated Godrevy break in Cornwall (he also gave us a sob story about not winning the fancy dress surfing comp so we felt sorry for him), pictured here in a fantastic shark outfit and with his 1st place prize, a shiny new board - A+ for effort!

The second place prize of a Watercooled deckpad went to Tristan Jago for nominating "Muddles" - "A well-kept secret, 'Muddles' is located in Porthtowan carpark and is perhaps the least crowded break in the whole South West. The paddle-out is easy and, on a good day, this break will support faces as high as 8mm. That's 8mm from the back, none of that kook, face-measure!!  Muddles has no weaver fish, no jellyfish, no sewage pipes, and nobody dropping in. It's where I cut my teeth on surfing, and it's where I introspect, and compose poems. This is why Muddles is the best damned surf break going!" - Thanks Tristan, not a break we regularly surf but each to their own.

Third prize went to Harrison Fawcett, who is already ripping up some epic waves at Treyarnon, near Padstow in Cornwall.  Enjoy your Watercooled teeshirt Harrison!

Thanks to everyone who entered!
